Mary Kotch

Mary Kotch was named as Global Head of Business Solutions for Munich Re in September 2018, overseeing and standardizing functional delivery for each of Munich Re’s subsidiaries around the world. Previously she served as the Executive Vice President, Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Validus Holdings, a Global Insurer/Reinsurer.

In this role, Mrs. Kotch was responsible for driving Validus’ worldwide application and technology, security and global business innovation strategy focusing on revenue growth through use of technology and digital strategy while ensuring that the company’s infrastructure and applications are cutting-edge, flexible and aligned with the needs of the customers, partners and employees.

Mary leverages a diverse background in technology, application development, product development and law to strengthen strategic market positioning. Mary’s key strength is her ability to identify and deliver innovation opportunities to both empower business users and increase market differentiation amongst competitors. She has over 10 years of managing reinsurance data science/research and portfolio platforms, over 15 years in insurance leading transformational programs and more than 15 years in managing complex Global IT Shared Service Centers for PMO, Development, QA and IT Operations.

Prior to joining Validus Holdings, Mary Kotch was a member of AIG’s executive leadership team and served in various leadership roles including Chief Technology Officer for Americas and Chief Information Officer for the Latin America and the Caribbean. Mrs. Kotch was awarded the 2014 AIG CAO and IAD Diversity & Inclusion Award for her work championing women in technology.

Mary came to AIG from MetLife Investments where she was VP of Technology. She established Investments’ technology vision as well as the innovation and architecture strategy. She led all aspects of technology development in support of a multi-year infrastructure optimization hosting program. She also served as Global Director for Biovail Pharmaceuticals, overseeing all aspects of IT.

Mary has been featured in Waters Technology Magazine, Executive Profile Magazine, and was recently selected as “one of The 30 Most Influential Women in Business” and is a frequent keynote speaker for various financial service technology conferences. She is passionate about building up IT talent and working with colleges and universities to enhance their curriculum for technology students.

These experiences developed Mary’s expertise in Business/IT Strategy, Leading large IT transformation programs including infrastructure and application cloud sourcing. She held a variety of roles including Data Management Global Director at Campbell Soup Company where she created and executed upon the Enterprise Data Strategy and consolidation and outsourcing of data management services.

She spent a number of years as a “principle consultant” providing consulting services to Fortune 500 companies solving complex customer integration, business intelligence and data warehouse applications problems with large data volumes (terabytes of data). She also designed and led healthcare and pharmaceutical companies through the development of model driven data architecture strategies and frameworks and customer information management implementations (Johnson and Johnson / Merck).

She been an advisory board member guiding a number of industry consortiums or Start-up companies: Pillar Tech, RequirementOne, Aquiline Technology Investment Fund, Pharmaceutical IMPACC, ACORD Model Driven Framework, Behavioral Health Committee for Informatics.

Mary Kotch hold degrees from Temple University (J.D.) and Penn State University (B.S. computer science; MBA). She has taught over 10 years as an adjunct professor at Penn State Allentown and Muhlenberg College teaching information management courses. She and her husband Dr. Michael Kotch have a son and daughter, who are also tech-minded citizens.
